Management and staff of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) Makeni Station in a customized meeting with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Northern Regional Office pledged to uphold integrity in the execution of their duties. This declaration was made on Tuesday 16th May 2017at SALWACO Office, Waterworks Road in Makeni.

In his submission, ACC Regional Manager North, Abu Bakarr Kamara stated, the Pay No Bribe (PNB) programme is funded with 4.7 million British pounds from the UK Government in financial aid and technical assistance. He underscored that, PNB is led jointly by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Office of the Chief of Staff in coordination with relevant MDAs. The PNB platform is funded by UK Aid and GoSL, with Coffey International providing technical support to the ACC and GoSL in the implementation of the project, Mr. Kamara added.Dilating on key issues in the PNB report, Manager Kamara said ‘’The management of a country’s resources will only be maximized if Sierra Leoneans are willing to prevent corruption.’’ Manager Kamara noted that the PNB campaign is one amongst many strategies employed by the Commission to tackle bribery in the public sector. ACC Regional Manager indicated that though there were limited numbers of calls received from the public on the operations of SALWACO, they should not be complacent. He advised them to remain committed to their work and ensure they deliver efficient services to the public. Public Education Officer, ACC Abdulai Saccoh said, PNB is an innovative reporting tool that provides citizens the opportunity to report incidents of bribery in public institutions. Saccoh stated that the campaign is geared towards ensuring that public institutions grow and maintain high standards in service delivery. He furthered that bribery should not be seen as a way of life as it will undermine effective delivery of services in public institutions.

In his statement, Station Manager SALWACO, Cyril Hartwell Bell lauded the efforts of the ACC in its resolve to tackle bribery in public sector institutions.

Manager Bell assured the Commission of their commitment as demonstrated in the PNB report to work within the ambit of the law and maintain high levels of professionalism and integrity in their operations.
