The Chief Executive Officer of Dorothy Springer Trust (DST), Dr Abdulai Dumbuya and staff, on Friday 9th June 2017 bade farewell to Jack Smith, a dedicated volunteer from the United Kingdom who was in Sierra Lone to help contribute to DST’s work in transforming the lives of people living with disabilities.

CEO of DST, the volunteer and students

At a small farewell programme organized for the departing volunteer, Dr. Dumbuya said that Jack Smith who was with them in the last six weeks contributed immensely in their Digital and Numeracy course for disabled students. Whilst commending the volunteer for the precious time he spent with them, he also noted that he was very useful in providing outstanding training to students at DST.  In his brief statement, Jack Smith stated that he first heard about the DST Digital and Literacy Programme in the UK during the time when the CEO of DST was doing fund raising, so then he decided to come and help. ‘’ the course was amazing, and I feel happy to have played my own part in helping providing training to people with disabilities, most of those who were part of the training can now read, write and do basic Maths’’ Jack Smith explained. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Digital and Literacy course, students gave him a card and also an African Shirt as appreciation gifts for the time and knowledge he shared with them.

On behalf of the students, Patricia Kabia expressed thanks and appreciation to the volunteer for his tremendous contribution to the course and DST work in Sierra Leone.

Meanwhile, DST which is a UK and Sierra Leone registered Charity has solid track record in providing exceptional Information Technology and other employability skills to disabled people in the country.
