Hon. Vice President of Sierra Leone, Ambassador Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh, his Liberian Counterpart, Joseph Nyuma Boakai and representatives of the Guinean Government led by the District Commissioner of Nongoa, Captain Laye Naite on Sunday 11th June, 2017, attended a Post Ebola Thanksgiving Service organised by the United Christian Evangelical Fellowship International in Koindu, Kissi Teng Chiefdom in the Kailahun District, Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Vice President Foh in his statement delivered on behalf of His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma stated that he was in the Kissi Kingdom to stand with the people of the Makona Region as they commemorate one of their most difficult periods in history. He praised the resilience of the Makona people in defeating the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). He warned against complacency and urged the people to learn from the mistakes which led to the spread of the virus.
VP. Foh commended the Church for such an initiative in erecting a Memorial Stone Site, which he hoped will serve the purpose of a grave site for the families of those victims buried in unmarked graves.
Vice President Foh on behalf of the governing and All Peoples Congress (APC) reiterated Government's commitment in developing Koindu Township and the Kissi Region. He declared that the poor road network in the Makona Region will soon be a thing of the past, as this is a major concern to the three Governments of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, which formed the Mano River Union (MRU).
In his side, the Vice President of Liberia, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, expressed his gratitude to the presidents of the Makona Union for their efforts in holding the Region together. The Memorial Stone Site, he said, reminds the Makona Region of what they have together as a people. "What affects one, affects all," he declared.
VP. Boakai prayed that the lost Glory of Koindu Township will be restored.
The high point of the service was the unveiling of the Memorial Stone Site at the Koindu International Market by the two Vice Presidents and the Head of the Guinean Delegation.
