Sierra Leone Bottling Company (SLBC) yesterday Sunday 9th July, 2017, have provided protective gears, cleaning tools, food for work and incentives to Freetown City Council for market women and young boys in the operation clean market exercise conducted in Dwarzark Market, Koo Town Road Market and Lumley Market.
The Country Manager of the Sierra Leone Bottling Company, Mr. Israel Okujagu revealed that they are always happy to give helping hands to women and he added that market women are special people that should be treated with care because most often than not they support their children and their husband. He assured all present that the Sierra Leone Bottling Company will continue to do more for women in the country but he urged them to always keep the market place tidy and clean.

The Mayor of the Freetown Municipality, Sam Franklyn Bode Gibson cautioned market women to always keep the market place clean. He added that most illness that people contacted are as a result of the dirt in our environment. He disclosed that one of the factors that are responsible for the deadly Ebola disease in our country is because people fail to take proper care of themselves and the environment in which they are living. He added that the lesson of the Ebola disease has thought us the need for us to always washed our hands and keep our environment clean and tidy. He went on to say that the market women should take proper care of the bags they have handed over to them to put their dirt and when they are full it will be easy for the truck to collect and dispose them. He added that the Councilors, Chairladies and Chairmen should monitor the market always to ensure that the people trading within the market do not misuse the facilities the Sierra Leone Bottling Company has provided for them. He went on to say that as the Sierra Leone Bottling Company has committed themselves to support market women in the country to ensure that the market place is clean and tidy the Freetown City Council will always help to consolidate such moves and enforce the laws to ensure that people comply by keeping the capital city clean especially the market places.
The councilor of ward 384 in Dwarzark community, Mr. Sheiku Lamin Dumbuya said that this is not the first time the management and staff of Sierra Leone Bottling Company has supported them to clean the community including the market place. He therefore thanked the management and staff of the Sierra Leone Bottling for the support they have been given to them over the years.
The Environmental and Social Officer of the Freetown City Council, Mr. Sulaiman Zainu Parker said that over the years they have realized that cleaning of the market place has been a huge challenge and as a result of that they contacted several institutions to come to their aid but it only the Sierra Leone Bottling Company that offer to assist them with protective gears, cleaning tools, food for work and incentive for the boys that are helping in the cleaning exercise. He disclosed that part of the cleaning exercise they would wash and fumigate the entire market places. He warned people to desist from throwing dirt in the street because this time around they would ensure that they arrest, charge to court and depending on the outcome of the matter the court would levy heavy fines on defaulters.
Market women of the various markets places in Dwarzark, Krootown Road and Lumley expressed their gratitude to the Sierra Leone Bottling Company for the kind gesture they offer to them and assured that they would always the their market places tidy and clean.
