The Kambia District Council Chairman, Mr. Osman S. Fofanah, has intimated Awareness Times during a visit by this newshouse to Kambia, that the council’s current priority is on community development in all areas of Kambia district.

According to Chairman Fofanah, Masongbala, Magbema Samu, Mambolo, Tonko Limba and Brimia Gbin-leh Dixon chiefdom can be proud of schools, health centres and social infrastructure that are gradually improving.

Chairman Fofanah stated that when they were newly inaugurated, there was nothing in the coffers of the district and thanked international NGO’s like MSF and Giga Mining Company, for the rehabilitation of power electricity supply and the water pumping station for the entire Kambia and Rokupr respectively.

Mr. O.S Fofanah said the Kambia youths are presently engaged in clearing exercises and that Agriculture in Kambia district is very much a priority.

"With the help of the Abu Nerica Rice project, we have made much improvement in terms of rice production." he said.

He added that President Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabbah's pronouncement will be met and this year's results from the attempts at sustainable food production has been encouraging.

Chairman Fofanah also told Awareness Times that more and more farmers have contributed immensely to improve the agricultural sector in the district especially in Samu and Mambolo chiefdoms.

On his part, the Deputy district chairman, Mr. Nabie Yillah said every chiefdom will readily agree that the district council is performing its role to improve the communities and that old as well as young are presently working relentlessly to improve their communities especially in the area of food security, health and education.

He however appealed to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology especially on the SABABU project to put more focus and effort into completing their own projects in the Kambia district.
