The two representatives of the Doing Business Project at yesterday’s award presentation ceremony were the Consultant, Mr. Jean Michael Lobet and Ms. Marie L. Delion of the Financial and Private Sector Development Vice Presidency.
The Doing Business Project representatives informed Awareness Times that the project ranks countries in an assessment of where it is easier to do business. They said Sierra Leone ranked 160 from amongst the 180 countries rated by the survey.
The two World Bank representatives also disclosed that the award to Messrs Macauley and Bangura were in recognition of the firm’s contribution to the project over four years.
"They are a ‘thank you’ award aimed at compensating the practitioners since they have never received such for their continued contributions towards the project" said Mr. Jean Michael Lobet.
Also speaking to Awareness Times was the other World Bank representative, Madam Marie Delion who intimated that the two solicitors have been very instrumental in the completion of the Sierra Leone Chapter of the surveys for the project, hence the need for the award as a way of thanking them for their faithful contributions.
Speaking of the honour bestowed on him, Lawyer Centus Macauley, a former Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, expressed his elation for being a proud recipient of such a prestigious award. He said it is a sign of recognition by the World Bank that the Firm has done its own so far in promoting the law, the legal practice and Sierra Leone in particular.
On his part, Mohamed Sahid Bangura stated that receiving this accolade from the World Bank "marks a very important point in our legal practice in Sierra Leone." He expressed his personal gratitude for the recognition, stating that it will serve as an example for other legal practitioners in Sierra Leone to emulate the art of being promoters of doing business with the world. He ended by dedicating the awards to the Firm of Macauley, Bangura & Co.
