Action-Aid International Sierra Leone will today 4th July commence a week long hunger free campaign as part of its Crisis Response Strategy 2008.
In an interview with the Communication and Documentation Officer on the essence of the campaign, Mr. Peter Beckley, he stated that Hunger Free is Action Aid’s newest international campaign on the right to food during which they will be calling on governments to deliver on their commitments to make hunger a thing of the past by 2015. To achieve such a goal, he said Hunger Free will use a human rights based campaigning approach by encouraging partnership with communities around the world.
Action Aid has set objectives in place, in carrying out the campaign vis-à-vis achieving global change through human rights by focusing on three key issues; strengthen the right to food framework, women’s right to land and corporate accountability.
Talking to the Policy Support Unit Officer, Action-Aid, Dauda Brimah Sallu, he disclosed to this press that the Organisation has already trained 100 activist campaigners (70% women and 30% men).
Outlining priority areas, the Policy Support Unit Officer said that they will be starting the campaign in Action Aid Development Areas in the country including Freetown, Kono, Kambia, Bombali, Tonkolili, Moyamba and Bo where they will first start an awareness raising on the right to food in communities ahead of the actual campaign later in the year.
